Deceleration efficiency for protons at CRYRING

چکیده
The Manne Siegbahn Laboratory is planning for the transfer of the CRYRING synchrotron and storage ring to the future FAIR facility, where it will be used for deceleration of antiprotons and heavy ions at FLAIR. The efficiency of the deceleration process, i.e. the minimization of particle losses, is important, and we show here a strong correlation between losses during the start of the deceleration process and the bunch length of the particle beam, giving criteria for the beam transfer between the NESR

Neutron-loaded outflows in gamma-ray bursts
Relativistic neutron-loaded outflows in gamma-ray bursts are studied at their early stages, before deceleration by a surrounding medium. The outflow has four components: radiation, electrons, protons and neutrons. The components interact with each other and exchange energy as the outflow expands. The presence of neutrons significantly changes the outflow evolution. Before neutrons decouple from...
متن کاملResonance Absorption of Alfv•n Waves at Comet-solar Wind Interaction Regions
he interaction of the low frequency (10 -• Hz) MHD waves, observed upstream of comets, with the structured plasma near the cometary bow wave is examined. It is suggested that the waves undergo resonant absorption due to either ambient density gradients or localized shear in the background magnetic field. The absorption process can give rise to rapid heating of the solar wind protons, in agreeme...
متن کاملEffect of Adiabatic Deceleration on the Focused Transport of Solar Cosmic Rays
In the framework of focused transport theory, adiabatic deceleration arises from adiabatic focusing in the solar wind frame and from differential solar wind convection. An explicit formula is given for the deceleration of individual particles as a function of the pitch angle. Deceleration and other first-order effects of the solar wind, including convection, are incorporated into a numerical co...
متن کاملModeling the Effects of Fast Shocks on Solar Wind Minor Ions
Observations show that when a particles and other minor ions in the solar wind plasma encounter fast shocks they are heated more than protons and their bulk motion is decelerated less than protons. These effects have been studied using a three-fluid model, and the model predictions have been compared with observations. The comparison i dicates that for supercritical fast shocks the three-fluid ...
متن کاملOptically thick super-Eddington winds in Galactic superluminal sources
A model of major ejection events in Galactic superluminal sources GRO J 1655-40 and GRS 1915-105 is proposed, in which episodes of e−e+ pair creation give rise to the formation of optically thick outflows accelerating protons to the limiting Lorentz factor of order 2-3. Probable source of e−e+ pairs is pion production in nucleon collisions. Subsequent deceleration of ejecta and formation of rad...
